EXECUTIVE THINKING

When might it help?

You might be:

  • wrestling with a decision where there is no obviously right answer
  • trying to make sense of a complex organisational or system problem
  • dealing with competing perspectives or priorities
  • wondering whether you’re framing an issue in the right way
  • preparing for a difficult conversation or significant decision
  • feeling too close to a problem to see it clearly
  • looking for challenge rather than another opinion

Sometimes you don’t need someone to tell you what to do.

You need someone who can help you think better about what you’re dealing with.

What does Executive Thinking involve?

This isn’t consultancy. We don’t arrive with a predetermined answer.

And it isn’t conventional executive coaching. The focus isn’t primarily on your personal development or performance.

The focus is the live issue you’re dealing with.

We use questioning, critical challenge, systems thinking and relevant evidence to examine the problem from different angles, surface assumptions and explore possibilities.

  • Challenge your framing

How a problem is framed determines what we notice — and what we don’t.

We’ll test the assumptions behind your current understanding and explore whether there are other ways of seeing the issue.

  • See the wider system

Difficult decisions rarely exist in isolation.

We’ll explore relationships, interests, incentives, history, consequences and other parts of the system that may be shaping what is happening.

  • Test your thinking

Sometimes the most valuable thing an independent person can do is disagree with you.

We’ll challenge reasoning, test options and identify assumptions or uncertainties that deserve closer examination.

  • Work through what happens next

    The purpose isn’t endless reflection.

We’ll help turn clearer thinking into practical choices about what you might do, test, investigate or discuss next.

Independent. Confidential. Challenging.

There is no report to commission and no programme to join.

Bring the issue you’re dealing with.

We provide the time, structure and independent challenge to help you think it through.

Sessions can be used individually for a particular issue or as an ongoing thinking partnership where that is useful.

Need some space to think?

Start with a short conversation about what you’re dealing with and whether Executive Thinking would be useful.

Some problems need space to think.

Senior leaders rarely lack meetings, advice or opinions.

What can be much harder to find is protected space to think properly about a difficult issue — with someone independent enough to challenge your assumptions, experienced enough to understand the context, and with no organisational agenda of their own.

Executive Thinking provides that space.

A confidential, structured thinking partnership for leaders dealing with complexity, uncertainty or difficult decisions.
